Meet the team: Joanna Holcombe

In our Meet the team series, we profile our Short Back & Sidewalks volunteers and talk to them about their experiences volunteering with us.

Hi everyone!

I’m Jo and I volunteer as the Communications Coordinator for Short Back & Sidewalks. In a nutshell, I take care of things like the website and newsletter. Last year I built the new Short Back & Sidewalks website. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out here https://www.shortbackandsidewalks.com/ and let me know what you think.

I’ve been volunteering with Short Back & Sidewalks since February 2018 and I really love seeing the team come together for big events, such as the Garma Festival of Traditional Culture and the Mission Australia Christmas Lunch in the Park.

For me, volunteering is about using my skills for good. I recognise that I have the privilege of receiving a good education (among many other things), so I want to make sure I’m creating a positive impact in the community with the skills that I have.

I highly, highly recommend heading to a Short Back & Sidewalks event if you haven’t yet. Attending an event in person explains why we do what we do better than any content I create - you get to see and feel first hand the impact of our work: creating meaningful connections and visibility for some of our most vulnerable and marginalised community members.

Take care and I hope to see you or hear from you soon.

Jo
